It's Sunday, I'm deep in the throws of a lovely head cold and therefore in my jammies with some chamomile tea and honey, listening to Christmas music and poking around on the internet. It would be perfect if the weather was also cold and grey, but even though there's a bit of fog coming in off the ocean, it's mostly sunny outside. So that's a bummer. Bloody glorious sunshine.

As I've been poking around on Pinterest this morning I've developed a hankering to make a big batch of roasted vegetables -- broccoli, cauliflower, brussell sprouts, sweet potatoes, squash, whatever I can find. I'm feeling unhealthy anyway, so the coziness of warm, roasted autumn veggies sounds soothing. And after the dietary excesses of the last couple of days weeks months, I want to restart my habits with something tasty and good for me. I also have some awesome boneless chicken thighs that I'm itching to bake up with some olive oil and garlic. Tasty!

Being sick, however, I'm torn between this desire to make comfort food and not wanting to put on clothes and go to the store. I think hubs may be getting ready to go out for some errands of his own, so I can probably convince him to stop at the store for bundles of veggies. While I sit in bed with my laptop and my Google docs and my Netflix, emerging only briefly to make the kids mac and cheese and get more tissue.

What I'm Reading~

Smoke, Dan Vyleta ~ I finally got my book club to read this one. They tend towards more mainstream picks, so convincing them to read a large hardcover historical magical realism novel was a win for me. It's set in a historical version of England in which sin, immorality, etc., is physically manifested as smoke that comes from your body. The artisocrats don't smoke, proof of their superior morality and right to rule. But the lower working classes in London are covered in soot and grime. It's the story of two young men in a boarding school for the elite who start to learn that things are not what they've been taught to believe. So far, it's very good. The writing is superb and the story has me totally hooked. It's a lot like a Harry Potter background, kids in a boarding school, with some teachers who are nice and some who are not so nice, but very much not YA.

The Detective's Pleasure, Christa Tomlinson ~ Found this one in a daily deal email for ebooks. It looks to be the third in a D/s series revolving around a bunch of detectives and officers on the same police force. This one is about Ryan, a sub who's nursing a broken heart, and Sam, a Dom who wants to help Ryan release control and really embrace his sub side. So far, it's super steamy. This is the first m/m Dom story I've read, and it's interesting to see the different types of play that guys do together. On top of which, reading a story about what seems to be a more realistic, healthy D/s relationship versus the stylized FSOG version is incredibly refreshing. It's reminding me just how little I actually know about the true nature of these relationships, and if I want to incorporate them into my own stories I need to do a lot more research. (Such a burden...)

What I'm Writing~

First draft, Sanguitorium ~ While I didn't get anywhere near finishing this draft during NaNoWriMo like I'd hoped (and more later on what I took away from another "failed" NaNo year) I wrote 10k awesome words and got further into the plot than I ever have before, so I feel good about where it is and where it's headed. I still have the goal of having this draft finished by my next big birthday, which means I'm aiming to get it written by the end of this year. Sort of a December, back-to-back NaNo type of thing. Gotta get crackin!
